| Deb Neisen has over 30 years
experience as a psychotherapist working
with adolescents and adults. She has
expertise in couples and family therapy
including divorce and stepfamily issues,
and has facilitated divorce support
groups and workshops for parents
regarding co-parenting and children’s
adjustment to divorce. In addition, she
trained with Bruce Fisher, author of
Rebuilding When Your Relationship Ends,
and facilitated adult support groups
based on this model. As a divorce
coach she is a member of the Rocky
Mountain Collaborative Law Professionals
and the Colorado Collaborative Law
Professionals. Coaches focus on skills
and strategies to help the adults
navigate intense emotions normal to
divorce adjustment such as sadness,
anger, guilt, loneliness and
frustration. The goal is to provide a
supportive environment that leads
clients to make the decisions for all
family members during the transition of
divorce to rebuild a new family
structure.
Coaches focus on strategies and
skills to help clients to:
-
understand the divorce process
-
learn
stress management skills and ways to
manage emotions constructively
-
understand children’s responses and
needs
-
create
a positive co-parenting relationship
-
learn
communication and conflict
resolution skills
-
gain
effective problem-solving and
negotiation tools to resolve
impasse.
In a collaborative divorce the
coaches will work with clients
individually to support them to
negotiate a plan based on their goals,
concerns and needs. Coaches communicate
with other members of the team, such as
lawyers, financial planners and child
specialists. Coaches may also
participate with clients in four-way
meetings with the other parent and coach
and/or meetings with attorneys, as
needed.
