E. Richard Toray
is a partner with Gerash, Toray & Gerash,
P.C. In addition to his criminal defense
background, he is an experienced family
law attorney and practices personal
injury law. He has been appointed by
courts to serve as defense counsel for
the indigent in state and federal
jurisdictions and as Guardian Ad Litem
in juvenile delinquency cases.
Mr. Toray has tried more than 55 jury
trials and numerous bench trials. He has
made over 1000 appearances in the
courtroom, including federal, state and
municipal courts. He has practiced in
both state and federal appellate courts,
has presented oral arguments to the 10th
Circuit Court of Appeals and has had two
of his cases published.
Prior to becoming an Associate Attorney
with two prominent Denver law firms, Mr.
Toray ran a successful law practice. He
was also a senior attorney with the
Colorado State Public Defender's Office,
where he supervised staff and trained
young lawyers. As a seasoned trial
lawyer he is intimately familiar with
the rules of evidence and procedure and
the day-to-day workings of the court
system.
Currently a large focus of Mr. Toray's
practice is family law, including
collaborative law. Not only has he been
trained extensively in the collaborative
law process, but he has published
articles on collaborative law and is a
contributing author in: Collaborative
Law: A New Model for Dispute Resolution.
He has also been member of the Rocky
Mountain Collaborative Law Professionals
since 2003.
Mr. Toray has studied more than a half
dozen foreign languages. Before entering
law school, he attended the University
of California, Berkeley where he
graduated with a Masters degree in South
Asian Studies and received a graduate
fellowship for foreign language study.
He has lived, studied and traveled
extensively in Asia, Europe and Latin
America. The extent of his past
experiences makes him an excellent
communicator with the courts, clients
and other professionals.
