Deborah Owen-Sohocki is a licensed professional counselor and divorce and parenting coach. Deb graduated from Kent State cum laude with a BS in Education in 1971 and her MS from Texas A&M-CC in 1995.
She has worked with children since 1972 beginning as a classroom teacher in special education. Deb began working with families in 1983 as a parent/child coordinator. Over the years she has worked with children of all age levels and has particular experience with high risk students and children who have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. Having been divorced and a single parent, Deb has worked with many divorced and single parents providing coaching support, guidance, and effective tools to deal with the many challenges unique to divorced and single parents.
In 1988, she became a certified parent educator and has conducted hundreds of parenting classes nationally and internationally since then. Part of the parenting trainings that Deb teaches is the family meeting: a collaborative process involving parents and children. In 1991, she became certified to teach Positive Discipline in the Classroom to school districts throughout the country and internationally. This training taught teachers and students the collaborative process of class meetings. She coauthored a book entitled Positive Discipline in the Classroom: A Teacher’s A—Z Guide which is based on the collaborative process between students and teachers.
